Renewing the focus of your personal work doesn’t need to start at the beginning of the new year.  With Pilates, every single time we lay down to begin the work, we have the chance to renew the focus internally and reconnect to the center as we move externally.

What if we took that approach every single time?  What if the “Beginning of the Year” reminders, resolutions and new commitments were really just a renewed focus to go deeper, to practice more consistently, to turn an activity into a habit.

It is possible that the starts and stops will smooth out and a rhythm and flow will emerge.  It is possible that what once felt like a tiresome effort may develop into a rhythmic dance of connected movements.

What if we simply renew the focus on the deep center. The middle. The place inside ourselves where all that “two-way reach” begins.

The deeper we go inside, the more power, space, energy and reach we may find to lengthen outside of ourselves.

I am writing this post in anticipation of spending renewed, focused time with my “go-to” teacher, Brett Howard.  As shown in these clips, each of his movements flow gracefully into the next, seamlessly, as if he were dancing. This is a model of the grace and ease I seek to impart to others in my work as a teacher while renewing my personal focus to extract from myself as a student.

This exquisitely beautiful “Dance on the Wunda,” was filmed and presented by #PilatesAnytime, December 2017.
