NO!!\u00a0 Yet, the variable and its support is absolutely divine on the body.\u00a0 I have decided to add the tool to some of my Pilates Mat classes.\u00a0\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6662\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6662\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6662 size-event-post-thumb-box\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/SriDharmaWSon-e1519164026663-300x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6662\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sri Dharma Mittra with son, Dov Samuel Vargas<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>DYW stands for Dharma Yoga Wheel and I have had one in the studio for years.\u00a0 The original design; a beautiful, hand-made, interwoven wood wheel that had absolutely no padding was designed by <span id=\"ctl00_cphMain_ProductDetail_ctl00_LLongDesc\" class=\"cellLight long-desc\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dharmayogacenter.com\/about\/about-dharma-mittra\/\">Sri Dharma Mittra<\/a> who originated and invented this Wheel for use in Yoga in 1977. Of course, I went for the completely recycled and natural fiber wheel that made the wheel light weight yet, it<\/span> needed a tad more cushion for most people.\u00a0 I remember bringing it to a Yoga class years ago and one of my #YogaTeacherFriends <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/oneikasyogalife\">OneikasYogaLife<\/a> took it home,anxious to try it out, and wasn&#8217;t crazy about it in the absence of any &#8220;mat&#8221; surface on the wheel itself.\u00a0 I am such a &#8220;hard-ass&#8221; that I grew very accustomed to its resistance.\u00a0 I did however add a bit of sticky mat to the circumference and now use it exclusively in my private practice work.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I am not a Yogi.\u00a0 I am a Pilates Teacher, yet I love Yoga and <em>it is and will remain<\/em> a part of my body maintenance work.\u00a0 As will cycling, running and strength training with weights.\u00a0 They all, coupled with regular Pilates, keep me feeling my best.<\/p>\n<h1>Back to the DYW<\/h1>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6672\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6672\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6672 size-event-post-thumb-box\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/BwpPDAFIMAEZT3W-300x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6672\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Classic Dharma Yoga Wheel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8230;.well, I found another design.\u00a0 As the market absorbed the use of the DYW; other designers have added their spin.\u00a0 More colors, more sizes, different materials.\u00a0 I found a design with a <strong>thick black mat<\/strong> and am adding it to my toolbox in the studio for specific mat classes and\/or specific students.<\/p>\n<p>I find it very supportive of the pelvis and torso for the Intermediate-Advanced student.\u00a0 Not unlike the Pilates #SpineCorrector, it provides a delicious heart-opening-back-bending support that is perfect for mat class variations.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, I am using several of the exercise sequences generally used on the spine corrector, on the DYW, as shown below in the video.<\/p>\n<p>However, Spine Stretch Forward, Swan and even Mermaid variations feel fabulous with the wheel.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TQSyLjOENqY\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>So consider it a joyous gift from another movement methodology when I pull them off the shelf in the weeks ahead.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a tool that is not in the classic Pilates repertoire, but nevertheless, #MsJackson will be using it in the Pilates4Fitness Movement Space. \ud83d\ude09<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yes, the Pilates Police might scream and holla, because I am doing the unthinkable&#8230;.mixing genres.\u00a0 OMGoodness!
