{"id":6110,"date":"2016-05-22T20:01:26","date_gmt":"2016-05-22T20:01:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/?p=6110"},"modified":"2019-11-19T15:08:14","modified_gmt":"2019-11-19T15:08:14","slug":"on-the-wunda-chair-because-i-said-so","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/on-the-wunda-chair-because-i-said-so\/","title":{"rendered":"On the Wunda Chair:  &#8220;Because I Said So&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During my private session with Brett this week, while we were working a particular <strong>Wunda Chair<\/strong> series exercise, he told me to do something specifically and I stopped in the middle and asked, \u201cwhy?\u201d \u00a0In his direct, yet humorous style, he gave me a sigh and said,\u201cbecause I said so.\u201d<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I followed his instruction and we laughed with the comfortable acknowledgement of two things:\u00a0 1)always have respect for the master teacher&#8217;s wisdom and instruction and 2) use of the familiar phrase and attitude we both learned from our mother&#8217;s.\u00a0 Our respective mothers were strong, black women that each raised children and allowed little room for debate or back talk.\u00a0 \u201cBecause I said so,\u201d was all you needed to know.<\/p>\n<p>It was Mother&#8217;s Week.\u00a0 I call it that, because my mother and great-grandmother were all born the same week of Mother&#8217;s Day.\u00a0 Brett&#8217;s use of the phrase in this manner was not uncommon with me or anyone.\u00a0 He says it a lot, and usually with a smile and wink.<\/p>\n<p>Nor was my question, \u201cwhy?\u201d uncommon.\u00a0\u00a0 I told him that my mother told me it was actually my first word. Not her moniker, \u201cmommy,\u201d but the question, \u201cwhy?\u201d\u00a0 It&#8217;s not that I wanted to question the authority of either of them, I just wanted to know why the action was chosen or required.<\/p>\n<p>He got it.\u00a0 I get him.
