{"id":5616,"date":"2016-01-08T22:35:19","date_gmt":"2016-01-08T22:35:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/?p=5616"},"modified":"2016-01-22T12:10:45","modified_gmt":"2016-01-22T12:10:45","slug":"the-start-of-something-new","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/the-start-of-something-new\/","title":{"rendered":"The Start of Something New"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have been blogging sporadically for years.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s been a sometimes on\/off thing, or when I arrived at an \u201caha moment\u201d or something exciting about a student to share.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This year, I am now living my 58th year of life and I know I am on the path I need to be running.<!--more--><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Since I have been encouraging students and clients, as we approach the new\u00a0year to #<strong>MakeYourMagicHappen<\/strong> and #<strong>GetPilatesCentered<\/strong>\u00a0because #<strong>PilatesMakesYouMove<\/strong>, I am taking a dose of my own medicine to going one step further by\u00a0putting a stake in the ground with a new category to my blog as I capture the activities, people, places and work of my\u00a0<b><i>58th Year with Pilates. <\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">It&#8217;s not a New Years resolution for me, but the new year always gives time to reflect on what daily activities we are or are not doing. \u00a0What things we may need to pay a little more attention to and which activities we can leave with yesterday&#8217;s trash.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I am truly not suggesting that\u00a0daily self-practice pictures will be taken and posted (I actually find it difficult to get my\u00a0work done on the body, when I am\u00a0worrying about what is or is not captured in the image or video) yet, I am planning write and visually blog about the activities each week. \u00a0<\/span>I&#8217;ll be connecting the dots and I looking for the &#8220;aha moments,&#8221; the magic of the circumstances, and the truth-telling in the eyes of myself and others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">I have been pinching myself a lot lately when I realize that I am actually loving, learning and teaching Pilates as a way of living my life &#8211; while I run the business of helping others to love, learn and live in their bodies &#8211; with this beautiful method of movement. \u00a0 So, yes my \u201cself focused\u201d and \u201cself directed\u201d health &amp; fitness training has a <em><strong>daily activity<\/strong><\/em> plan.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Pilates is a part of the week, but I won\u2019t lie, it has not been a part of every day.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019d like it to be.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Yet, life, business, schedules, clients and the necessity of sleep makes it a challenge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">So, as my mind rolled around how to &#8220;make my magic happen&#8221; in the new year for me, I found myself enjoying the freedom of Kathy Grant\u2019s cat <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-5636 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Screen-Shot-2016-01-08-at-5.56.49-PM-e1452293878842.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2016-01-08 at 5.56.49 PM\" width=\"200\" height=\"362\" \/>stretch (as taught by Blossom Leilani Crawford ) on the mat and played with the moves creatively in my mind and body while mulling over the unfolding weeks ahead.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>My client schedule was building to the point of almost overwhelming me to think about how would I <i>ever fit a 60-90 session\u00a0for myself into every day<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/i>&#8211; whether it was blocked out on the calendar or not!<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">With all that as a backdrop, <strong>Week 1<\/strong> unfolded fabulously.<\/p>\n<p>[unordered_list style=&#8217;circle&#8217; number_type=&#8217;circle_number&#8217; animate=&#8217;no&#8217; font_weight=&#8217;normal&#8217;]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>First workout of the New Year <\/b>was in my home and used <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myjfittraining.com\/\">Juan Estrada<\/a>\u2019s text message of a Wunda Chair series, (although admittedly I did add a few more variations) which he called his \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?fbid=10204313879680689&amp;set=a.1196523886815.24675.1640028380&amp;type=3&amp;theater\">Hit It &amp; Quit It<\/a>\u201d routine.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\">Pulled my Reebok Core Boards out of dust storage in the corner and dragged them down to the studio for variation and variety in the studio and played with them myself in between client sessions.\u00a0 My advanced TRX Flow class found a new sensation in our use of the boards this week.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\">Re-introduced Green Juice to my diet. \u00a0I knew I would need the energy support with the way my calendar was unfolding. I have new-found appreciation for adding a <a href=\"http:\/\/kunachia.com\/en\/\">Chia Shot<\/a> to any juice (citrus or green) for the extra nutrients and tummy filler.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\">Hung out with a group of women, 10 years older than me; and enjoyed the observation that no matter how old or young we are, no matter what race or background, our focus is always the same. It\u2019s our bodies!It\u2019s our hair! It\u2019s our sexuality and our personal pleasure.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Without going into depth, I enjoyed being the <i>baby of the bunch<\/i> and laughing about the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Screen-Shot-2016-01-08-at-5.18.25-PM-e1452293754782.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-5623 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Screen-Shot-2016-01-08-at-5.18.25-PM-e1452293754782.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"118\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a>personal escapades (deliberately leaving out the details) of a bunch of Wellesley and Smith graduates &#8211; now in their late 60\u2019s.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\">They all got a hoot out of a video which is now my inspiration for the year.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Who wouldn\u2019t want to have the beauty, panache, vitality, lift and confidence to move like Tina &#8211; as shown in her her 2015 Berlin concert to celebrate her 76th BD! (You <em><strong>should really click<\/strong><\/em> this <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/r16UkiI5wjY\" target=\"_blank\">link<\/a>!! \u00a0#justsayin&#8217;)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\">My first check of the year was written to sign up for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bridgepilates.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Blossom Leilani Crawford<\/a> workshop at the end of the month.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>As I told Juan, I didn\u2019t care what the workshop was about, I just wanted to be in the mix (a couple of times this year) under her tutelage.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/unordered_list]<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p4\"><b>Flexibility Friday<\/b><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p4\">Today, as I write the details of <strong>WeekOne<\/strong> of #YR58Pilates, and my first<b> Flexibility Friday<\/b> session at 6am. \u00a0As a part of \u201cdoing something everyday to move,\u201d I consciously decide the activity and keep my appointment with myself.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Friday is my commitment for an early AM flexibility &amp; stretch day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">I started by warming up the <a href=\"https:\/\/smartspine.com\/product\/smartspine\/\" target=\"_blank\">SmartSpine<\/a> track and moving through a long 40 minute, slow-motion lengthening sequence that I simply allowed my body to find and explore, naturally in free flow movements, without regard for order or rigid steps.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I basically moved to warm, open and free the joints.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The movements mirrored (sorta) the Hundred, RollUp\/Rollover SL Circle and the Series of Five. I pulled deep in the back extensors and into that SmartSpine track to feel every vertebra while making very long, luxurious slow motion stretch and reach and stretch.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>No pictures, of course.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It was 6am!<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">[image_with_text_over width=&#8217;one_third&#8217; title=&#8221; title_color=&#8217;#faee0a&#8217; title_size=&#8221; title_tag=&#8217;h2&#8242;]<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">[\/image_with_text_over]Then, I used the Wunda chair for Spine Stretch Forward along with a lateral rotational reach.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Turned over to work the backline on the Wunda in Semi Circle in <b><i>slow motion<\/i><\/b> &#8211; all while still laying on the HEATED SmartSpine track &#8211; so as to relish in the sensation of every inch and every fiber of my legs as I worked the pedal of the Wunda.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This is a keeper.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Glad I wrote it down.<\/p>\n<p>[vc_text_separator title=&#8217;Related Posts&#8217;
