{"id":5532,"date":"2015-08-02T23:07:55","date_gmt":"2015-08-02T23:07:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/?p=5532"},"modified":"2018-10-23T21:22:10","modified_gmt":"2018-10-23T21:22:10","slug":"always-a-student-of-pilates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/always-a-student-of-pilates\/","title":{"rendered":"Always a Student of Pilates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Teachers get their butts kicked by Senior\u00a0teachers. \u00a0Senior teachers are reminded what it is that they still don&#8217;t know by working with a Master teacher. \u00a0Master teachers got that way as a result of having worked as an apprentice (back in the day) or having been trained and mentored by an &#8220;elder&#8221; of the Pilates community. \u00a0<!--more-->There are only a few elders\u00a0still amongst us. \u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.carareeserpilates.com\/about\/\">Cara Reaser<\/a><\/span>, one of the\u00a0Master Teachers of the community and mentee of the elder\u00a0teacher <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pilatesanytime.com\/Pilates-History\/617\/Kathy-Grant-Timeline\">Kathy<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-5547\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Screen-Shot-2015-08-02-at-6.47.41-PM-300x166.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2015-08-02 at 6.47.41 PM\" width=\"400\" height=\"221\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Screen-Shot-2015-08-02-at-6.47.41-PM-300x166.png 300w, https:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Screen-Shot-2015-08-02-at-6.47.41-PM-700x387.png 700w, https:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Screen-Shot-2015-08-02-at-6.47.41-PM.png 835w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/> S. Grant<\/a> had the vision to pull together a number of her colleagues and collectively they have\u00a0filmed a few <em>sweet hours<\/em> of history and supplemental training via video and conversation with the elders and the teacher&#8217;s created under tutelage\u00a0of these elders\u00a0in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pilatesanytime.com\/program-view\/14\/Pilates-Program-Pilates-Legacy-Project\">PilatesAnytime Legacy Project<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I admit. \u00a0This may be old news to some, as the Pilates Legacy Project was brought to life in October 2013, spearheaded by Cara Reaser in conjunction with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pilatesanytime.com\/instructor-bio\/2\/Kristi-Cooper-Pilates-Teacher\">Kristi Cooper<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pilatesanytime.com\">PilatesAnytime<\/a>. \u00a0 However, it took a sweaty, butt kicking with <a href=\"https:\/\/pilatesology.com\/instructor\/brett-howard\/\">Master\u00a0Teacher Brett Howard<\/a> and a conversation during the session to open my eyes to the existence of the project. \u00a0Brett consistently talks about and\/or refers to Romana\u00a0Kryzanowska,\u00a0Kathy Grant, Carola Trier and exercises, adjustments or adages he took from his training,\u00a0relationship and experiences with many\u00a0of the\u00a0master\/elder teachers.<\/p>\n<h4><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">[su_pullquote align=&#8221;right&#8221;]The Legacy Project is an ongoing, ever-growing archive of the history of Pilates. It tracks the growth and evolution of the Pilates method from Joseph&#8217;s original students to the people who continue to keep the torch burning today.[\/su_pullquote]<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>I admit\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-5421 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/14476596801_55edf4bd7c_o-202x300.jpg\" alt=\"Kathy Grant &amp; Lolita San Miguel\" width=\"202\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/14476596801_55edf4bd7c_o-202x300.jpg 202w, https:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/14476596801_55edf4bd7c_o.jpg 430w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 202px) 100vw, 202px\" \/>was blown away, not only by the content, depth of discussion and revelations from the video segments of the series. \u00a0I was virtually brought to tears with the jewels and nuggets in the Kathy Grant Documentary, &#8220;The Story of My Song.&#8221; It was my hands down favorite of the series.<\/p>\n<p>I have to also admit I was equally blown away by the <em><strong>very<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<strong><em>few number<\/em><\/strong> of views, comments and &#8220;thumbs up&#8221; on each of the videos!\u00a0The latter said to me, not enough of the world&#8217;s Pilates practitioners, students or teachers have seen the Legacy Project. \u00a0<strong>#JustSayin&#8217; #JustAnObservation<br \/>\n#JustWonderingWhy???!!!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lastly,\u00a0\u00a0while I am so envious\u00a0that I was not privileged enough to train under any of the elder teachers, I\u00a0feel humbled,\u00a0blessed\u00a0and thankful that I was able to personally meet <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/kathy-grant\/\">Kathy Grant, Lolita San Miguel and Kathy Corey<\/a> a few years ago at Alycea Ungaro&#8217;s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/realpilatesnyc.com\/\">RealPilatesNYC<\/a><\/span> studio in workshop.<\/p>\n<p>I am also very grateful to every teacher and practitioner that I have been touched by, sweated under the instruction of, and laughed with on or off the mat &#8211;
