{"id":4908,"date":"2014-07-02T21:22:27","date_gmt":"2014-07-02T21:22:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/?p=4908"},"modified":"2014-07-02T21:42:55","modified_gmt":"2014-07-02T21:42:55","slug":"pilates-over-50-perfectly-executed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/pilates-over-50-perfectly-executed\/","title":{"rendered":"Pilates Over 50: Perfectly Executed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Carolyn is one of my absolute favorite people to work with. \u00a0She claims she &#8220;hates to exercise&#8221; but she approaches every activity she has pursued with me through the \u00a0years, with full attention and absolutely perfect execution. \u00a0She\u00a0\u00a0is one of the strongest, most beautifully women I know. She is also one of the feistiest women I have ever had the pleasure of laughing and working with as a teacher.\u00a0<!--more--><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #808080;\"> Our history together, goes back many years. Our energy clicked from the outset and her initial introduction to me was with a Pilates Mat class I was running in a local gym, more than ten years ago. \u00a0I think I told her when we first met, as I pushed her to go a little deeper on an exercise (after the scowling eye she gave me) &#8220;it takes one to know one.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4913\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4913\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4913\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/20140603_112753-e1403737746517-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Private TRX Session\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4913\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Private TRX Session<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Carolyn hates to exercise. Or so she says. She does however, want the benefit and the result of the work, yet she &#8220;hates the process&#8221; of making it\u00a0happen. Over the years, she\u00a0has joined my bootcamps, my hiking excursions, special event programs; she has worked privately, semi-privately and made new friends with women 30-40 years younger than her, as well as a few that are older than her 69 years of age and wisdom. She and her husband travel annually and she returns each year to start fresh with another reminder that her husband is &#8220;going to have a few words with me about how badly I made her body feel after her workout.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">It is this ongoing play we have with each other, I push, she pulls; I laugh, she pouts; I say yes, she says, &#8220;how many\u00a0more?&#8221; that makes the wonder and enjoyment of the training\u00a0so special with Carolyn.<\/span><\/p>\n<h6><span style=\"color: #800000;\">[su_quote]love the challenge and relish the fight to get there[\/su_quote]<\/span><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">She knows I don&#8217;t give\u00a0her &#8220;moaning and groaning&#8221; much attention. In fact, I find that I usually get the best, precise movement from her when she is frowning, groaning and moaning. \u00a0You will understand this clearly by watching her in action in the video below. \u00a0\u00a0All this notwithstanding the fact that Carolyn absolutely rocks everything she does with such admirable grace and fluidity (along with the unceasing moans and groans) makes her my teaching joy and inspiration.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Gracefully Executed Movements<\/span><\/h4>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4957\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4957\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4957 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Reformer-300x291.png\" alt=\"Reformer\" width=\"300\" height=\"291\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Reformer-300x291.png 300w, https:\/\/www.pilates4fitness.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Reformer.png 1012w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4957\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Semi-Private Pilates<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">She said\u00a0she hated the reformer, and referred to it as the &#8220;torture machine.&#8221; \u00a0Yet, she is enjoying the mastery of movement using the equipment. \u00a0Once exclaimed she couldn&#8217;t use the Pilates Orbit, as she would &#8220;fall on my face on those wheely things,&#8221; still she executes a multiple series plank-pike movement with absolutely control.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">The TRX was &#8220;too much and makes my body tired,&#8221; yet her standing arabesque (shown above) is a movement many would die to accomplish for themselves!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">You name the excuse or complaint, and Carolyn could find a reason &#8212; if given the chance &#8211; to defer, deflect and distract &#8211; the unwitting from the opportunity to help her find and move from her center. \u00a0Yet her lines are the longest. Her legs the straightest. \u00a0Her oppositional movement and coordinated balance the best. \u00a0She loves the challenge and relishes the fight to get there.
